The Blue-Eyed White gene, also known as the Vienna gene, is quite a simple gene to work with. It produces a beautiful solid white rabbit, with bright blue eyes. We are working toward producing quality BEW's that some day may be showable.
Vienna Gene information
BEW x BEW = 100% BEW
BEW x VM/VC = 50% BEW, 50% Vienna carriers
VM/VC x VM/VC = 25% BEW, 50% Vienna carriers, 25% "Normal"
What is a Blue-Eyed White?:
A Blue-Eyed White is a solid white rabbit with bright blue eyes.
Notes on out breeding the BEW:
Extreme caution should be taken when breeding a BEW or Carrier/Marked to a rabbit lacking the vienna gene (BEW gene). BEW's are not showable, so you could be risking your colors and show quality lines by doing so. An example would be producing rabbits with mismarked eyes, toenails, and stray white hairs...thus making them unshowable.
Care should also be taken when selling Carriers to the public. A good breeder will inform any potential buying that his/her rabbit is carrying the gene, or else it can wreak havoc on their colors.
What is a Vienna-Marked or Vienna-Carrier:
Simply put..it's a rabbit carrying the gene. The only difference between a Carrier(VC) and a Marked (VM) is that the Vienna Carrier is showable, while the Vienna Marked is not (stray white hairs, mismarked eyes/toenails). Vienna Marks often have partial blue eyes, or a solid blue eye.
